Notes: Taken from a dark sky site at 8,400' under transparent conditions. North is up and west is to the right as it appears in star charts. The next larger image has the more popular orientation of east up and north right. Of interest in the next larger image upper left corner is an asteroid trail from the 22km 1584 Fuji. The trail resulted from the motion of the asteroid over the 3.5 hours elapsed for the exposure taken 2006 08 21 from 7:52 UT to 11:25 UT. The asteroid occulted a 9.5 magnitude star a on the 2006 08 19. The occultation was visible from Australia to Japan from 20hr 0m to 20hr 13m UT. The 15.5 magnitude asteroid 1584 Fuji was discovered February 7, 1927 by the Japanese astronomer Okuro Oikawa. Color composite from (4)full frame images through Ha, Red, Green, and Blue filters. Check the star images at the corners in the larger image. Click here or the Galaxy image for a larger view.
